''The Capital'' is a daily newspaper published in Annapolis, Maryland since 1884. Its sister newspaper, ''The Gazette'', is one of the oldest newspapers in America, its origins dating back to the early 18th century. ''The Capital'' serves the city of Annapolis, much of Anne Arundel County, and neighboring Kent Island in Queen Anne's County. ''The Maryland Gazette'' was founded in Annapolis in the early 18th century by William Parks. Originally known as ''The Evening Capital'', the name was shortened to its present form with the start of weekend morning delivery in 1981.
